MINING HERITAGE PROJECT
- SEPTEMBER 2004 |
|
|
We're "on bank" in this photo. Mr Tango showed us
around and we saw coal tubs and railway engines and all the machines and tools used in coal mining. |
They gave each of us a helmet to wear so that we
would be safe down the mine. It was a bit scarey but everyone was brave. |
|
|
We met Carl the Pit Pony. Carl was bigger than
we were but very small for a horse. He looked so friendly we could have cuddled him and some of us wanted to take him home. Mrs Harwood wouldn't let us. |
Then we saw the notice on Carl's stall which said
that he might bite us. It was lucky we could all read. Being able to read can be very useful sometimes. |

Just a final shot of us back "on bank". We had a wonderful
day and we learned a lot. Maybe we'll come back here some day and bring our
kids. They should know about the coal mines where their great
grandfathers used to work. We all feel proud of them. |
