Our original Constitution is still relevant today.........
- The name of the Association is: Seaham and District Chamber of Trade.
- The objectives for which the Chamber was established are:-
- the association of traders, merchants, manufacturers, professional men and women and others in the County of Durham, to consider, promote and do all such lawful things, plans and schemes as may be calculated to further, improve and secure the prosperity of the members of the Chamber, and to promote the interests of the town and neighbourhood in general.
- the creation and fostering of a spirit of goodwill, friendship, and unity amongst the members of the Chamber and by meetings, lectures, discussions and other functions, to provide facilities for the exchange of views between the members and for social intercourse between members of the Chamber and the town.
Some of our current aims and activities.......
The present national and local climate demands that we put an increased emphasis on partnership. There are many statutory bodies and organisations which operate within the Seaham area. We are already working with some of them to benefit both the town and our own members. Our intention is to significantly extend our range of partnerships.
Currently we are:
- involved in the "Seaham Harbour OnLine" internet project
- involved in promoting the town of Seaham and its neighbouring villages.
- actively promoting better trade between our Seaham and Murton members.
- involved in planning for the regeneration of the Seaham and Murton area
- mounting a massive campaign to recruit new members to our own organisation.
