Andrea Smiths views on Whippets

So what do you think of whippets, Andrea?

Andrea We put some questions to Andrea Smith from Rotherham, England who was at the Dawdon, Golden Jacket Event.

Question:Why are you sold on whippets and whippet racing Andrea?

Answer:"I prefer whippets to greyhounds. Greyhounds are too big and not such good pets as whippets. A whippet will just curl up with you on the settee. They are very affectionate animals. They never turn nasty and are brilliant with kids. They're also good watch dogs and bark if someone comes to the door."

Question: Don't you feel that women are out of place in whippet racing?

Answer: "There's lots of women involved in whippet racing whereas greyhound racing tends to be dominated by men."

Question:How expensive is it to keep whippets?

Answer: "Mine get beef, biscuits and veg with cereal on a morning. You could probably feed a whippet for less than a fiver a week."

Question: How important is the racing aspect of whippets to you?

Answer: "When they're in the traps ready to go, I get butterflies in my tummy. I've never had that feeling with anything else."
