The Scots Family McGregor on Whippets
Jim and Norma McGregor on Whippets
We put some questions to the McGregor family from Livingstone, Scotland who were at the Dawdon, Golden Jacket Event.

Question:You've been racing whippets for over 12 years folks and the whole McGregor family has been involved.
Why whippets?

Answer:Whippets are good all round pets. They're good at home and you can race them. They're not really expensive to keep - perhaps £5 a week but you can feed them on family left-overs and they'll still thrive. They're very affectionate dogs, their coats don't leave any mess and they really love racing.

Question:How important is the social side of whippet racing to you.

Answer:It's very important. We travel all over the country to race our five dogs. A fortnight ago we spent a week down in Devon and we're off to race in the Islands of Scotland when we leave Seaham.

Question Do you win any money racing whippets?

Answer:One of our dogs won about £60 at this meeting But really you can't be in it for the money. Anything we win would only help towards the petrol costs.

Question: There must be some disadvantages to keeping whippets. What are they?

Answer: Well it depends on your situation. They hate cats (but we don't have cats). They generally dislike other dogs. Some people get complaints from the neighbours if they bark but that's no different from any other dog.
