IMMUNISATIONS
Travel Injections
The practice provides a comprehensive worldwide travel immunisation and advice
service. We are a designated yellow fever centre. Advice on which
immunisations you require can be obtained from the practice nurse.
We have most travel vaccinations in stock and most vaccinations are provided
free-of-charge. Please allow at least eight weeks before you are due
to travel.
Yellow Fever
Yellow fever vaccines are recommended for several countries and are a mandatory
requirement for entry to certain countries. We are a designated yellow
fever centre and will be happy to provide this vaccine to anyone who requires
it, you do not have to be registered with the Practice.
‘Flu Vaccinations
This is offered free-of-charge to all susceptible patients and is usually
given during October and November. ‘Flu vaccines are recommended to
all patients over the age of 65 years and those who suffer from asthma, diabetes,
heart or kidney problems. If you are elderly and infirm we can arrange
for this to be done at home.
Tetanus
Boosters are recommended every five to ten years. Tetanus is a life
threatening disease. It is fortunately rare because of vaccination.
Tetanus spores are present in soil and animals and may be introduced into
the body during a puncture wound or trivial wound. It is, therefore,
important to maintain immunity. For those who have had normal childhood
immunisations, which include tetanus, a booster is recommended every five
to ten years. If you think you may not be fully immunised, please make
an appointment with the nurse.
