MATERNITY CARE
Full antenatal and postnatal care services are available
– an information leaflet is available at reception.
Antenatal clinic – Tuesday 10.00 am –
12 noon
The clinic is run by Dr Asha Kapoor and
the midwife.
A team of midwives provide your maternity
care and one of the midwives that you meet during your antenatal period will
deliver your baby. You will then be given full postnatal care by the
team of midwives, thus the same midwives provide care throughout you antenatal,
delivery and postnatal period. The Practice operates a system of ‘shared
care’ with the local hospital. This means that most of your antenatal
care is carried out at the surgery and you will only need to visit the hospital
a couple of times, provided all goes well. Please inform us as soon
as you are discharged from the hospital after having your baby so that we
can arrange for a doctor to visit you.
Breast Feeding Support/Post Natal Group
Your Health Visitor
holds a breast feeding support/post natal group in the surgery every Tuesday
10.00 a.m. – 12 noon. The group is open to pregnant women as well as
those with babies. Breast feeding mothers are offered tips and resources
on how to breast feed successfully as well as having the opportunity to share
ideas with other mothers. Pregnant ladies have the opportunity to discuss
breast feeding with those who have already chosen this method of feeding.
The Health Visitor takes the opportunity
of discussing topics which are of interest/importance to those attending.
Topics include basic first aid skills, including how to deal with a choking
baby and basic infant CPR; accident prevention, meningitis awareness and
behaviour management.
