OTHER
SERVICES AVAILABLE AT THE PRACTICE
Physiotherapy
If your doctor feels that you need a course of physiotherapy,
fitting of a neck collar or advice on back exercises, etc. they will refer
you to our physiotherapist who holds a weekly clinic at the surgery.
This avoids you travelling unnecessarily to hospital.
Chiropody
A chiropodist holds sessions in the surgery. This
service is available free-of-charge to all of our patients. If you
have a problem with your feet and would like to see the chiropodist, please
make an appointment with your doctor who can arrange a referral.
Counsellor
A counsellor holds a weekly session at the surgery.
If you are troubled by anxiety, depression, stress, relationship problems,
etc. and would like to see the counsellor, please contact our receptionist
who will arrange this for you.
Dietician
A dietician holds a clinic at the surgery once a month,
to provide expert advice and support to patients who are diabetic, overweight,
have high cholesterol/lipids or other medical conditions, e.g. heart problems,
nutritional problems. If you would like to see the dietician, please
ask your doctor for a referral.
Surgical Shoes And Orthopaedic Appliances
If you require special shoes or other orthopaedic appliances,
we will usually arrange for someone to see you at the surgery and supply
the appliance. This avoids you waiting for a hospital appointment and travelling
to hospital.
Weight Management
Anyone wishing to lose weight is welcome to make an appointment
with the practice nurse who will provide advice on achieving and maintaining
your target weight.
Health Checks For Senior Citizens
If you are aged over 75 years we offer an annual
consultation with the nurse. This can be done at the
surgery if you are well enough to attend, or at your home.
Hospital Discharges
After you have been discharged from hospital following
a serious illness or major operation, it is our policy to ask one of our
district nurses to visit you to offer appropriate care, advice and support.
Please inform us as soon as you are discharged so that we can inform the
district nurse.
Practice Charter
As a practice, we want to provide you with the
best services possible and have developed a practice charter which details
the standard of service you can expect from us and what we expect from you.
The charter sets standards for appointments, telephone answering, etc. and
is available from reception.
Patient Participation
Your views are important to us. We believe that
you, the patient, should be involved in your own care as much as possible
and also be given every chance to discuss your views. If you have any
suggestions for improvements in our service or any hospital services, we
would like to hear them. Please email us or ask to
speak to our practice manager or doctor.
Questionnaires
From time to time you may be asked to complete a questionnaire.
This is so that we can assess your views of our services and make changes
and improvements wherever necessary. Your suggestions have already
been used to improve our appointments system, our baby clinics and our health
visitor service. As a result of your suggestions we now hold a late
afternoon/early evening baby clinic to accommodate working parents.
It is, therefore, important that you complete all questionnaires and provide
any suggestions – remember, we can only give you the service you want if
we are aware of what you want.
