Vane Tempest Miners Lodge Banner

Vane Tempest Colliery produced its first coal in April 1929. Situated only yards from the cliffs of Seaham's North Beach it dominated an otherwise attractive seafront. As at Dawdon Colliery, coal was mined more than three miles out under the North Sea. The colliery closed in 1992, the last coal mine in the famous Durham Coalfield.
