Current Projects

Our current projects are concerned with a number of our key objectives:
  1. raising funds to repair and conserve Seaham's old mining banners
  2. raising public awareness of our mining heritage and of its importance to our community
  3. involving the public in enhancing and conserving our mining heritage
  4. raisin funding and support for a Seaham Heritage Centre
1. Seaham Mining Heritage Project - # SG-03-51109>
hlf logo This is currently our main project. SDVT Banner und,are working in partnership with Parkside Infant School to raise awareness, amongst our youngest children and their parents and familiesof the nature and value of our mining heritage.  We been awarded a grant of £26,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund for our  Seaham Mining Heritage Project which in total is valued at over £35,000. The funding will also allow us to repair and conserve the old Vane Tempest Lodge Banner.


2. Commemorative Plates

We have had a series of large plates produced commemorating Seaham's three pits and the men who died in them.

Please note that there are very few  plates left!

3. Mayor of Seaham's Annual Civic Carol Service
Seaham's Miners Banners will be displayed at the Mayor of Seaham's  Carol Service which will take place on Wednesday 22nd December 2004 at St Hild & St Helen's Church, Dawdon.  The children of Parkside Infant School will also parade their "Banner for Today" which will be blessed by the Parish Vicar  Rev. Graham Pollock.  We are grateful to Counc. Charles Walker for agreeing to these additions to the annual service and to Rev Pollock for agreeing to bless the children's banner.


4. Reviewing our annual programme of activities.

We are in  the  process of setting up a regular series of activities (eg church services, public meetings) to engage
the public in their heritage in a sustainable way. This link will take you to a plan of our current
