(Our Aims and Their Realisation )

Seaham Youth Centre runs in the traditional mould of a centre based youth club and offers a wide range of recreational, social and educational opportunities. Through these, young people are encouraged to participate, to develop positive attitudes and to integrate into society.

At the moment the Centre has:-

  • 8 part time workers
  • 4 volunteers
  • 4 auxiliaries
  • 1 part-time administrator

    Weekly Programme
    The programme at the Centre is always very full and active.
    Monday
    Play Group 9:15 to 11:15am.
    Throughout the day. The Centre is used by various community groups including football in the Sports Hall, Arts & Crafts  and Issue-based Workshops.
    7.00 to 9.30pm. "Seniors" Youth Club (14+).

    Throughout the day.  The Centre is,again, available for various activities including snooker, pool, and the use of Information Technology facilities.
    7:00 to 9:30pm. Intermediate Youth Club (11 to 13yrs). An exciting and innovative programme of activities.
    seniors & Smalls Wednesday
    The Centres facilities are available during the day!
    6:00 to 8:30pm. Seaham and Neighbourhood Disabilities Scheme (S.A.N.D.S)
    Youth Club (12 - 18yrs).This club developes exciting programmes of work with young people with disabilities in a youth work setting.
    Seniors Thursday
    During the day a range of activities are available including - Carpet Bowls and Keep Fit.
    7:00 - 9:30pm. Senior night once again. A great night for everyone! Videos, small games, discussion groups (drugs education), Food Nights.
    juniors Friday
    9:30 to 11:00 am. Play Group 
    1:30-3:30pm. Male Drop-In. The opportunity to socialise and identify employment & training opportunities.
    "Junior Night" (8-11yrs) This is the busiest night of the week. Sometimes numbers reaching the 100+ mark.

    Current membership is over 300. Average attendance is 150. Activities include: Sports Hall (football, cricket, Bouncey Castle, volleyball, games, netball), Arts and Crafts, Disco, Roller Disco and videos.

    The activities offered on all of these nights are varied and creative, ranging from Football, Basketball, Table Tennis and Badminton to Arts and Craft, and photography.eldersm Often visits out are arranged and local exchange visits are set up. There is also a lot of work achieved in the community. The interaction between the young people and the older members of the community is very positive, tea dances have been organised where both parties seemed to enjoy themselves immensely.

    The Youth Centre also offers a "Senior Member Training Programme" a stepping stone in bridging the gap between membership of a Youth Club and training to be a "Youth Worker".  The training programme is aimed at developing the young persons citizenship to enable them to provide a positive role model and educate their peers.
    Issues include First Aid, Health and Safety, Dealing With Conflict and Equal Opportunities.
    The programme is open to anyone aged 14-18yrs. Why not come and try?
