 UNVEILING OUR "BANNER FOR TODAY"

Friday , 9th July 2004, 2:00pm

The children worked hard during June to ensure that their banner would be ready to be carried into Durham for the Miners' Gala.  Today the were ready to reveal their work and the work of the artists at Bearpark Artists Cooperative to the world.  A ceremony was arranged to take place at Parkside Infant School when the banner would be "unveiled". The new banner is pictured below.

DURHAM MINERS GALA
Saturday  10th July 2004
The carrying of the childrens' banner at Durham Miners Gala will be seen by many of us as the focal point of this project.
We have created a gallery of photographs to record this event.  The children, with parents, teachers and supporters were up very early on Saturday morning.  They boarded a coach at Parkside shops and were transported to Dawdon to the Dawdon Miners Welfare Hall.  Here they were greeted by Dawdon NUM officials and former miners nad their families.  Together , marching behind the Dawdon Lodge banner they paraded along Queen Alexandra Road and Princess Road with their banners held high and to the sound of Scottish Pipers.  At the railway crossing on Princess Road they boarded their coach once more and travelled to Durham to take part in the Miners Gala.
We have created a gallery of photographs of the entire event.
