A tour of the church with Mr Harry Fickling introduced the children to some of the history of Seaham Colliery and Christ Church.
Conservateur, Jacqueline Hymen arrived well prepared to explain to the children how damage to banners might occur in different ways.
The Seaham and Dawdon Colliery banners were spread out on the (clean) carpet. Jacqueline identified areas of damage and suggested how they might have occurred. Using prepared forms the children completed a damage survey of each banner. The forms will be kept to check the the condition of the banners before and after conservation.
Finally, the banners were carefully wrapped in special paper ready for transportation to the Studio at Altrincham.
The Seaham and Dawdon Miners Lodge banners were collected from Christ Church, Seaham.
