OUR WORK
Our work is unpaid but
our commitment is 100%. Our aim is to use the skills and equipment
we have to save the lives of our friends and neighbourbours.
REACTING TO EMERGENCIES
First Responders are a group of volunteers who help
provide a first response to the local community for certain medical emergencies,
such as cardiac arrest, chest pains, sudden collapse, breathing difficulties,
and choking.
The idea is that weare called to these emergencies by ambulance control.
Because we live in the locality of the call (within 5 minutes) we hope
to get there before the ambulance and stabilise the patient. We stay with
the patient until the ambulance leaves for the hospital. We are a voluntary
organisation open to anyone who passes the training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
(CPR) and the use of a defibrillator. We are a completely self-funding organisation.

TRAINING FOR THE JOB
All members of the First Responders team are required to undergo continuous
training to ensure that they are competent to carry out their duties safely
and successfully.
Some of the training is so important that it is repeated every three months.
The certificate on the left is awarded for for successfully completing a
course in Cardiopulmonary Resusitation (CPR) and Defibrillation with an Automated
External Defibrillator (AED)
