Golden Jacket whippet racing events are organised under the auspices of the National Whippet Racing Federation of Great Britain. 
Each year, many whippet racing meetings take place through the local clubs but these are not Golden Jacket Events.
In all there are only nine Golden Jacket Events held each year as decided by the National Whippet Racing Federation.
A Golden Jacket event is run under the rules of the National Federation and though the arrangements may be organised by a local club, the administration and judging is under the control of approved members of the Federation Executive Committee.
A whippet which wins five Golden Jackets during a season becomes a Supreme Racing Champion.
