We respectfully remind patients that Saturday surgery is for urgent consultations
only.
Consulting Times
Surgeries are held every morning and afternoon and are by appointment.
Please ask the receptionist for surgery times.
APPOINTMENTS
Appointments can be arranged by telephone or calling in person. Wherever
possible we try to accommodate appointments within 24 hours. If you
think your problem is urgent, please tell the receptionist an outline of your
problem so that you can be given an appropriate appointment.
Long Appointments
If you have a lot to discuss, please advise the receptionist when making
the appointment, so that you can be given a longer appointment. This
avoids delays to other patients.
CANCELLATIONS
If you wish to cancel an appointment, please inform us as soon as possible
so that the appointment can be given to someone else.
TELEPHONE ADVICE
If you would like to speak to a doctor but do not feel you need to be seen,
the doctors are usually available to speak to you on the telephone between
10.45 a.m. and 11.00 a.m.
HOME VISITS
Home visits are at the discretion of the doctor and are for patients who
are medically unable to attend the surgery. Remember, the doctor can
see four patients at the surgery in the time it takes to do one home visit.
If your problem is urgent you will always be seen the same day, so please
try to come to the surgery if possible. However, if you are seriously
ill and cannot attend the surgery, you can request a home visit by telephoning
0191 51308874, if possible before 10.30 a.m. The receptionist will ask
you for details of your illness to help the doctor assess the urgency of
the visit.
OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCIES
To contact the doctor when the surgery is closed, please telephone 0191
5130884.
Please make proper use of the night/weekend service. Remember you
can always see the doctor in the next surgery, so try to restrict these calls
to genuine emergencies that cannot wait until the next day.
A leaflet on self-treatment of minor ailments is available at reception.
REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
If you are taking regular medication, repeat prescriptions can be requested
by telephone, bringing your repeat prescription slip to the surgery or calling
at the surgery. Please ring after 10.30 a.m. when telephone lines are
less busy and allow 24 hours’ notice. If you wish the prescription to
be delivered to your home, please state the name of the chemist when ordering
your prescription and we will be happy to organise this. The doctor
will need to see you every six months for review. The following are
not usually given by repeat prescription: antibiotics, oral contraceptives,
hormone replacement therapy and tranquillizers.
TEST RESULTS
When you attend for any tests to be carried out you will be advised of when
you can expect your results to be available. Please telephone after
12 noon for results.
NEWLY REGISTERED PATIENTS
New patients are very welcome. You will be given a questionnaire and
registration form to complete and invited to attend a simple health check
with the doctor and the Practice Nurse. It is important that you attend
the appointment as we cannot register you until you do so. The questionnaire
provides details of your medical history and current medication while we are
waiting for your medical records to arrive from your previous doctor.
Please bring your medical card when registering and a sample of urine when
you attend the health check.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
It is very important that you inform us if you change your address.
If you are waiting for a hospital appointment please let the hospital know
as well.
ACCIDENTS
There is no casualty department at the surgery. If you have sustained
an injury as a result of an accident, fall, etc, please report directly to
the hospital accident and emergency department.
